150, Observe

However, Klype had no choice when Lucie had set her mind to something. They set the course directly to Terra and sailed through the atmosphere like a falling star. They sailed under the clouds around the planet systematically several times, while their equipment recorded the whole surface. Klype, that was mortal, was not enthusiastic to land on a dragon dominated planet in the wilderness. He suggested a peaceful place to land. Lucie accepted.

Then Lucie and Klype discovered something unusual in a dragon dominated culture. There was a tribe of primates, a tribe of pre-humanoid beings. They distinguished themselves from apes by using things as tools, by communication and social intelligence. Lucie decided that they should use camouflage when they observed the culture. She wanted to ensure that they did not disturb the primates’ conscience by their existence. The tribe’s main activities were concerned about security from outer threats. Far too often, to Klype’s horror, a member of the tribe was taken by a predator dragon, a member became ill or suffered from an other accident.

During these long observations, Klype got several reminders of his own culture and life. He could not quite understand why these memories appeared. The primates were so primitive, but somehow intelligent. If there was a problem, they tried to solve it. If someone needed help, it got it. They could even entertain each other with humorous communication. Soon Klype got greater sympathy for the tribe than he had ever felt at home.

He stumbled over some familiar plant on one of his personal expedition. Wasn’t that something like what the farmers back home started to grow? It looked very much like the plants they used to produce cookies. It had been a long time since Lucie had let him have some. He could simply not resist tasting it, although he knew the risk involved. At an instant he felt very calm and clear. Then he knew this was much better than the synthetic drugs Lucie had him hooked on. He quickly gathered some of the plants to his container and made sure that Lucie did not see it. Then he went very calm back to Lucie and played on with her observations. Lucie was satisfied. She had personal documentation of the co-existing of dragons and humanoids. She did not care much about details, but proof of its existence was sensational. She was satisfied and wanted to leave.

Back at their ship Lucie said to Klype, I think we are about to get finished. Most of the questions are answered and there is even living proof of it. However, the fourth terrestrial planet is still a mystery. The most urging questions now are, how were the life on Aquarius and how did it all end. Can you do a reliable scenario of it, she asked. She noticed a slight change in his appearance, but did not bother about it. Klype felt more self-confident than ever and answered, sure. He already had made most of the story in his own head and was eager to put it down in a scenario.

However, it was a hard one to put together. One info-crystal had some recordings of writings in a cave. It seemed like data patterns. Klype figured that the humanoid must have picked up the crystal and kept in its cave. Once Klype had broken the code, a personal story appeared. It was hard to understand because the experiences and perceptions were stranger than he had ever seen before. It was no doubt an advanced and sophisticated humanoid. But it should never have existed and now it was most certainly gone. Klype could not ignore the information and made a scenario out of the writings in the cave. He did not bother to tell Lucie, but started the scenes right away, for he had caught interest in the history himself.
