65, Klype’s final

Lucie was watching through her dragon eyes, as the asteroids sailed towards Terra. A few ships with biots did still correct the courses of the minor asteroids. It was kind of strange to see the party of stones that sail silently away, knowing that within a year, they were going to cause a terrestrial apocalyptic genocide. It was even troubling knowing that Klype’s faith had been determined in that way. She was hunted by guilt. Even though she knew it was entirely Klype’s own fault, she felt somehow responsible. Maybe she should not have brought him along in the first place. Despite all clear instructions and warnings, she tried to contact him at Terra. But it was of no use, the connection seemed broken.

Finally Lucie did get in contact with Klype. He had heard her calls several times, but ignored them. Tired of the calling, he thought it might be important and brought the communicator to a private place. He answered. Lucie told him in short terms what the plan was and Klype listen to her more than ever. Come back, Lucie begged, you do not belong down there. I have got problems. Likewise, Klype responded. He thought, where do I belong now? But answered for Lucie’s sake, forget about us, we do not belong anywhere any longer. But please tell me where and when it will happen. This was information that should not be given away. But for Klype’s sake, Lucie gave exact information about time and place and warned about the trackers. Klype listened carefully. Forget about us, was his last words. Then he broke the contact and destroyed the communicator.

Klype knew that things had to happen fast, if he and the tribe should survive. Some ethical barriers had to be broken. In his mind, there was marshal law. The tribe and he were doomed. Even if he was able to tell the tribe about this, he would not be believed. He could not build strong enough protection, he could not take leadership of the tribe, and they were not capable to manage the coming conditions.

Klype spent a lot of the time to find a safe cave. Finally he found a place that probably would not collapse, be overflowed or be blocked. But best of all, there were fresh water. In the cave he made tools, simple drawings about what to do, and he built several places for usual tasks like sleeping, cooking, for garbage, education and nursery. One day he noticed six female primates that peeked curiously around the corner. At first, he ignored them. By the time he realized that they might be easier to convince than the males. They seemed to like the new place and learned willingly of Klype’s knowledge. Finally they moved in to the new home.

When the asteroids were steady at their way, the angels paid Lucie a final visit. She was not looking forward to this at all. Their kind was simply determined to disapprove her kind. And in this case she had failed greatly and was going to be blamed. Although the angels did not show it, she knew they were enjoying this final triumph. The opening line by one of the angels said it all. “The dragon body is an appropriate choice of yours; - it is ugly, destructive and good as distinct.”

They just sat and watched each other for a long time. Then Lucie broke the silence by saying, let us get it over with. You have done your job, so what do you want from me? After a while one of them answered; this whole mess was a mistake in the first place, that cost a lot to fix and will set an example for the future. The situation requires someone responsible, and that someone will be you. You should go along with this, for there are strong forces involved that are most eager to get this incident buried and forgotten. Quite frankly, it might seem unfair, but it is necessary to maintain peace in the heavens.

Lucie was stunned; she was going to be blamed for the mess others had caused. Furthermore, all her kind might be blamed as well eternally. The angels would see to that. You can not do this, it will never work, she protested. Do you know so little of physical life that you really believe this apocalypse of yours will succeed? The entire solar system witnesses the history. You will never be able to cover the entire track. It will merely be covered – and ultimately discovered. The angles waited, and then said, maybe eventually, it will be discovered. However, that is when this event has lost its dramatic potentials and will not disturb the peace. It will never be allowed to let this accidental genesis rock the state of things. We are the good guys and you are the bad guy. That is the balance that makes our status and peace. It will not be changed. By the way, one angel added, how could you bring along someone like Klype, - a being of original sins? Lucie chose not to answer that one, but it certainly made her mind spinning.

Lucie knew that the angels would probably win this one too, like so many times before. Anyway, there was no point in discussing with them. They had completed their mission, stated their attentions and were ready to leave. She really wanted to be left alone and did not encourage any more arguments. Discretely triumphal, the angels left her ship and sent a polite wish for luck. She did not reply but simply watched they leave. The party stayed for a year though, until the last collection of terrestrial genes was done. The angels did not care to wait for the rocks to hit the planet. Like some demolition men, they turned their backs and left before the bombardment started.

One night, it looked to the tribe that a new star appeared in the sky. Klype had waited a long time for this sign. His feelings were mixed by relief and fear. He barely slept that night but thought continuously about the details of his plan. The next day he convinced the tribe’s males that there was a large flock of animals at the other side of the mountain. Finally he had even the most reluctant primates convicted to join the hunt. They went the whole day and reached the place in the evening. The star was now dominating at the night sky. Only the moon shone more. The sight fascinated the males but did not scare them. The next morning they finally reached the passage by the sea. The males were distressed and Klype knew that the panic was about to burst out. He sneaked back to the entrance of the passage and pulled a rope. When the first rock broke free, he ran to the males. They were taken by fear and ran towards the sea while the rocks rolled down the mountainside. All, except for Klype, stopped when the water was too deep. The rocks stopped falling, but blocked the entrance. The males could not swim and went back to the shore. However, they could not climb the clips and were blocked inside. Klype then demonstrated a final advantage, he could swim.

Klype swam around the clips and climbed the mountain where it was not that steep. From the top he could see the males and counted them. One was missing. By the others attentions he understood that one managed to climb far up the mountainside. Klype knew that he could not win a close struggle with such a large primate. He found a large rock and made it roll over the edge. Then there were roars, followed by furious shouting from the bottom, and finally silence. Klype peeked over the edge and saw the surrounded bode on the ground.

There was not much time left. He took the chance that no one would try to climb up again. It was evening and the asteroid was very visible in the sky. When he reached the top of the mountain, he stopped to see the phenomena. It looked like two moons with apparently the same size. Fascinated, he stood for a long while to see the sight. He knew about the size difference and that the asteroid was much closer than the moon. Then he heard furious shouting from the edge of the cliffs. The males had obviously found a way up from the passage, and wanted Klype. They could smell him at a long distance and they were very determined to get him. He felt the fear of death and imagined a struggle for life. He ran in a great bow down towards the cliffs again. The angry males ran after him and closed in. He was pressed by the edge when they all stopped. They listened curiously to the long warning horn signals in the distance. Then several minor ships took off and left towards the sky. Soon after, the first minor meteorite fell. At first, it was only a fascinating sight that caught the males’ attention.

Klype had three options, that all had fatal outcomes for himself. In order to keep the males away from nest of the tribe, he decided to try to keep them exactly where they were. He started the ritual actions he had seen the males do by the fire, to gather them for the event. Soon the tribe was in ecstatic dance while the meteorites fell. Klype managed to hold on their ecstasy until a meteorite hit their mountainside. Then panic hit them and they ran upwards. Then a meteorite hit the top and they ran down again. Klype watched the panic reactions calmly. In fact he saw it very well because the whole mountain was in clear yellowish light. He watched back and saw that the meteorite light like a big lamp in the sky. Then it was not much more to do, than to receive it all, and hope it would end quickly. He sent a final thought to his pregnant females. He made a prayer and hoped well for their future. Then he ate some of his plants and laid down on his back in the grass to see it all happen. Knowing the asteroids also contained genetic material, his final thought was; stupid bats of heaven.

Lucie had a panorama view. Her ship had moved into position in the moon’s orbit a while ago. It was sent to record the event for later documentation. She saw it all at the monitors that caught the probes circling Terra. She saw that the minor asteroids with containers had already entered Terra’s atmosphere and fell like falling stars all over the planet. The event must have made panic amongst most living things. They could not possibly know anything about the plagues to come from the antidragon viruses the falling stars carried. However, the asteroids were almost nothing compared to the 10 km wide berg that now entered the atmosphere. Like a gigantic fireball it flew directly toward the middle of a continental plate. Its impact had the force of five billion city-killers and made a flash covering the continent from sea to sea. Like a pebble falling into water, the rock was swallowed whole by the ground and vaporized. A giant geyser of fire rose from the impact centre. The continent was almost split in two, but did not let the seas quite meet. From the centre of the impact, circles of waves on ground and seas spread out. The earth quaked, mountains rocked and seas flooded. Halfway around the world, the waves met and doubled their peaks and shock all even more. In the centre of the impact, cracks in the ground reached magma reservoirs inside the planet and caused gigantic volcanoes. These volcanoes spewed ashes all over the world, and covered the ground and blocked the sunlight. A new ice age and the dragon-plague began.

Lucie watched it all happen. She would not care less, if she had not possessed a dragon body herself. Actually, she was the only one that kept such a species alive. What she wanted most of all, was to get her designed body back. This distinct primitive body was not according to her ambitions at all. Even Klype’s body was better.

She expected a greater reward for her work at this place. On the other side, her kind could not expect any fair reward from any angle. She, as a lost soul, was for ever detached, and the angels seemed to prefer it that way. She was an outcast, an exiled and bitter soul that could express her frustration in most evil ways. Hopeless in finding her way home,  to be attached again, the angels found ways to use her situation, doing their dirty work, and forever being lost.

She felt sick and tired. All she wanted now, was to go to sleep in her crypt.
