3, SoulsLucie slept for 60 million years. Not much happened in the solar system, as Klype predicted. Once in a while a comet passed the sol in its oval path, and asteroids randomly hit planets. Some of the impacts were considerable, but nothing like the Oort planet’s party. Anyway, Lucie’s ship was aware of its surroundings and changed its position when an object came its way. Suddenly her ship was activated once again from the outside, and she woke up before planed. Lucie went halfway in sleep trough the usual waking routines and sat down by the table to eat some food. Then she remembered that she was in a dragon’s body. It was not very practically for the daily acts in a ship. She damned the body’s clumsiness and wildness, but managed to eat. Afterwards she got enough nutrition and energy to function normally. She looked up and noticed for the first time the luminous body in front of her. She was paralyzed for a while, and then taken by confusion for finally to sit nervously in front of the guest. For a while they sat and looked at each other. Then he laid a finger at her forehead. Suddenly she became stiff and a stream of energy streamed from her to him. When the stream stopped, Lucie fell exhausted to the table. The guest consumed the energy for a long time. They sat like that for a while until he gave Lucie enough energy to waken. You are a Seraph, right, she asked. Klype stayed at Terra, he answered. Lucie was confused and understood that he had copied all of her memory. But she knew it was only the memories he could take, and not her thoughts. That made room for dialog and not merely dictation. Klype died 60 million years ago, she started. Yes, he interfered with a tribe of primates, but they all died during the apocalypse. Listen, I am sorry about that incident, and yes, I suppose I am responsible. But done is done and the harm was eliminated by the apocalypse long ago. All I wish is to get away from here and find a new existence. Lucie was satisfied with her speech. The guest said; there is a tribe of dominating humanoids at Terra now. They are probably related to Klype. The situation is worse than before the apocalypse. Lucie was in chock and speechless. Suddenly she realized what Klype had done. My domain has got the worst problem ever. That life should never have been created and now it is strong. We have no other choice than to secure it and control it. Lucie was more confused than before, and it was apparent. That life can not be terminated now, the consequences are threatening our domain, he continued. You are going to help me to secure the humanoids with this. The Seraph placed a container at the table. Lucie could not believe her eyes, the task and the consequences. Not even the angels have a soul, she said with doubt in her voice. Do it now and return here, he commanded. Lucie hesitated while thinking. Why should I care about their consequences. The angels deserve this and I am getting a seraph on my side. She convinced herself of the benefits of the task and left cheerfully. Lucie hesitated for a while. There was an intriguing question that bothered her a lot, that she now saw an opportunity to settle once for all. Suddenly it jumped out of her mouth. “Do you believe in God?” The reply “no” came immediately. First she was puzzled. Quit frankly, she thought that any seraph believes in God. But when this one says otherwise, it had to be true. She felt relieved. She was not lost at all. There was nothing to eternally, and probably unsuccessfully, search for. She felt free and unbound. What a relief. Lucie used her shuttle pod to sail to Terra. She had to fly several time over the continent to locate the tribe. They were certainly good in hiding, because she could barely focus on them at the scanner. However, she detected a single humanoid and followed it to a cave. She landed her pod at the distance and went over to the entrance of the cave. She stayed outside and watched the activities for days. . The cave was rather clever guarded. She watched minor dragons, like herself, enter the entrance and suddenly being executed in several ways. She was impressed and wondered how much Klype’s heritage had to do with it. She did not want to enter the cave, even though it was intriguing for her. She would like to know how far they had developed. The tribe had advanced considerable and reached an agricultural Stone Age society. Were they like some primate Klype? She shivered at the thought. Her superiors would certainly not appreciate the mix of the kinds and the results. She could not understand the seraph’s decision to give them soul. The humanoids could develop to be a very dangerous kind for all. However, that was not for her to decide. She was on a mission and determined to do it. She noticed that they went out hunting, harvesting and fishing in groups. That was much to dangerous for her. She had to get them at their own, one at the time. The way she chose was risky. She followed a group of fishers and laid herself down in the nearby woods. Then she started moaning and pretending to be a wounded little dragon. Surely the curiosity made one of the members investigate. When it bent over to have a close look, she suddenly set the little container to its neck. The humanoid was immediately stunned. The victim stopped paralyzed and stared empty into the air, while he fell forwards to the ground. Then the fragile soul could enter its body. Lucie sat down and watched the body sleep and getting adapted to the soul. She knew very well what was happening, because she was used to possess humanoids herself. It was attempting of cause to posses a humanoid herself, but she knew too well that the seraph had forbidden her to do that. She also suspected the seraph for having the means to undo it and make her regret. The rest of the task was easy. The possessed humanoid got another being to investigate the experience in the woods. It did not interfere when Lucie possessed the next one. In a way, the possessed humanoid was troubled by the scene. But somehow, it saw it was the same procedure as it had experienced itself, and that it was good. All in all seven humanoids were possessed during a week. Lucie managed to collect some blood sampled from the victims. There was no doubt. Even the males did not have yy chromosomes, which could only mean it stemmed from the androgyny Klype. There was an obvious bound between the possessed humanoid. It even seemed to Lucie that they recognized her. She was allowed to enter the cave and carefully investigate it. She was surprised. There was an organized culture inside. Most of what Klype had thought them, was still in system. She was allowed to stay as a pet, a role she did not object at all. While staying, she studied the educational paintings on the walls. She saw how they, boiled water, prepared meat and mixed it with spices. There even seemed to be a council of mature beings that decided on several matters. Surely there were internal conflicts that could be violently settled. However, in some cases it seemed that the council was involved, which put a more diplomatic perspective to the differences. The tribes got used to her presence and hold her more and more inside the cave. That was when she realized she had to go. They should not be too attached to her, and she should not be too involved with them. One day she simply went out of the cave to never return again. She went over to the ship, which she was very pleased to find intact. She gathered her belongings, put them inside and closed the door. Well at place, she started the engines and took of. She was certain that some of the humanoid saw the ship take off and wondered what that could be. They should have seen their little pet now, the thought to her self. |
