The Crash Test Dummies

It time for a music break again. Most people know this song, but cannot pronounce it quite right. This Canadian band makes several good songs that does not hit the lists, like this one. The band’s name refers to such figures like ‘Buster’ in the ‘Myth busters’ - that are made to sacrifice for planned disasters. Somehow, it reminds of the ‘Pyramid Games’ that are built to fail with the ethics of “honesty is for suckers’. (See start of the UU theme ‘The 5th Pyramid UU 2016.mai.13.) Still this song, with all its silenced hums, tells 3 stories of some unfortunate faiths of ignorance and arrogance. If any ethics applies to this, something should rather be talked through the sooner than later.

Wikipedia writes: “The Crash Test Dummies are a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

It is most identifiable through Brad Roberts and his distinctive bass-baritone voice. The band members have fluctuated over the years, but is best known with Roberts, Ellen Reid, Brad's brother Dan Roberts, Benjamin Darvill and Mitch Dorge. The band is internationally recognized for their single ‘Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm’ and most famous in Canada for the single Superman's Song. After a multi-year break, the band returned in 2015 with a tour and the new charity single ‘Promised Land’, which was a collaboration with Marc Mysterio following up his remix of” that M song.

“The band did not receive much international recognition until the 1993 release of their second album, God Shuffled His Feet. Particularly instrumental in increasing the band's exposure in the American market was the appearance of a new type of radio format, - the adult album-oriented alternative rock (AAA). These stations put the first single ‘Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm’ in high rotation and the song peaked at # 4 in the US Hot 100. The 4x3M song did even better in the United Kingdom, where it was a No. 2 hit, and Australia where it peaked at No. 1. The result was that by mid-1994 the album had passed the platinum sales mark (one million) in the United States and had also earned the band three Grammy nominations and three more Juno nominations. To date, God Shuffled His Feet has sold more than five and a half million copies worldwide.”
